Warwick History – With the click of a mouse, a new website devoted to the history of Warwick Township, www.warwickhistory.ca was launched today at the Lambton Heritage Museum.
The project began as a partnership between the Lambton Room and the Warwick Township History Committee with the publication of the book The Township of Warwick: A Story Through Time” in 2008.
“The committee quickly realized they were gathering more material than could ever be put into a book,” said Dana Johnson, Lambton Room Historian. “The Lambton Room offered to house the materials collected at the completion of the book, and to create a virtual archive where all of the material would be accessible to everyone interested in the history of Warwick Township.”
The website houses over 3500 images, the entire contents of the original publication and several interactive components. The public can help identify photographs, submit their own images and stories and participate in forum discussions about Warwick Township history. All this will ensure that the site is a changing and growing site over time. “As more items come into Lambton Heritage Museum and the Lambton Room collections, they will be added to the site,” said Johnson.
This site is the first of its kind for the Lambton Room, funded through the proceeds from the sale of the original book and a grant from the Ontario Government Ministry of Tourism and Culture Museums and Technology Fund.
